The very first Click Convention was held in Kings Langley (London UK) in 2000 (Saturday 16th September). Though it was a UK based convention, we had users from different countries turning up, people came from France, Holland and Argentina, the rest were obviously from the UK.After initial introductions took place, the talks got underway.
First up was Francois Lionet with a demo of Jamagic. Even though it was displayed on his laptop, everyone was amazed at the ease of the programming language. Of course one of the first questions that was asked was "When" will it be released (which of course it has been now for a while). After a short break Paul Boland gave a talk on using truespace, which was very apt after seeing the Jamagic demo.
Next up was Liz who did a very interesting talk on creating products using teams. Detailing the various pitfalls that could happen if you were thinking about creating a team to create your next game/application.
After Liz it was Jason's talk on "How Not to make a game or Product". Using some experience that he got from creating a professionally sealed web application, he went into detail how it shouldnt be done. Additionally 101 uses of what to do with a 1000 CD's when you cannot sell them (ok maybe just one or two uses)!
Last up was Steve who gave a talk on drawing in 2D (mainly character based drawing).Steves talk brought the very first click convention to a close. Some people then left for the train station, others left for home and the rest went out for a meal.
The first convention was a small scale, low key event, the next convention was not held until 2002. The venue had changed to a different location with a larger room (to allow for a projector and large screen). The number of talks and people attended had approximately trippled!
Many thanks to Paul Boland who provided me with specific information that i couldnt remember from the event (talks, dates and location etc). Thanks Paul. Visit his website http://www.iol.ie/~pkb/
